Packing Essentials for a Long Trip

Packing is the one thing about travelling that nobody ever looks forward to. The key to packing is planning ahead, the earlier you sort your things and decide what you’ll be taking with you, the less likely you are to forget something important.

It can be difficult to get the balance right. Pack too light and there’s a chance that you might be forced to buy things you already have while away, pack too much and you could end up paying a lot of money for airline baggage fees. So how do you pack for a long trip? These reminders should help:

1. Bring only the essentials

You can’t bring your entire room with you for your trip, no matter how long you’ll be on the road. Save space by bringing items that can serve multiple purposes like shampoo that you can also wash your dishes with.

3. Packing toiletries

Most travellers pack their toiletries like they’ll be gone for years. To save on space, bring only half a tube of toothpaste, pour shampoo in a small container and only bring half a roll of toilet paper.

2. Roll instead of fold

If you are to be away for a long time, you’ll be needing a lot of clothes. Learn to roll your clothes instead of folding them to save space, and prevent wrinkles and creases.

4. Wear your heaviest clothes on the journey

Why pack your heavy jacket and hiking boots when you can wear then instead? Wearing the heaviest things in transit won’t weigh down your luggage.

5. Limit yourself to one bag

No matter how many things you want to bring, limit yourself to just one bag. This way, you won’t only save on baggage fees but you’ll also lessen the risks of losing things. You’ll never need as much as you think.
